Adopt a Library program

I.   THE MARIKINA LIBRARY

 Marikina library history  The Marikina City Library started as a Municipal Library. It was established on Aug. 11, 1956 under the leadership of Mayor Gil Estanislao Fernando (father of former Marikina Mayor Bayani F. Fernando) – also widely known as the “Education Mayor”. The Library receives awards as the outstanding City Library on 2007-2008. The Library’s new “home” strategically located at the West Grand Stand of the Marikina Sports Park along Shoe Ave., was inaugurated on May 20, 2005. The Library occupies a total of 700.62 square meters.

 Goals, Mission and Objective VISION - to become a premier public library imbued with sound values and a strong commitment to lifelong learning and information literacy. MISSION- Continually develops, sustain, preserve, and make available and accessible to the public the vast resources of the Marikina City Library. OBJECTIVE- To encourage the community to patronized and maximized the use of Library facilities.

II.  OCULAR INSPECTION OF THE MARIKINA LIBRARY 

 The Library has a yearly budget of 3.4 Million but only 1M is allocated for the Library renovation or improvement and the rest is for their operational expenses. Uses an open-shelf system in organizing books and other materials. It consists of several sections such as children’s section, special collection, Law and governance, periodic, recreational, teen’s section and computer section. The Library is open to the public (residents of Marikina and neighbouring cities and towns) from Monday to Friday (except during holidays and special occasions), 8 a.m.-12 p.m., and 1 p.m.–5 p.m. 

III.  UAP- MARVALLEY PARTICIPATION – “Adopt a Library program"

DESIGN CONCEPT OF CHILDREN’S SECTION. 

The Children’s section is the main concern; our organization can help them develop a design concept for interactive library for kid’s ages 3-10 yrs. old. Some of the basic space requirements are; storytelling area, reading and audio-visual area, arts and science. Our chapter will also coordinate with “National Bookstore Foundation” for the book donations and help them promote Library activities.

The Marikina City Library will be a formally launched next year November 2012 , there will be an intensive campaign programs.

Marikina Entrance Markers

Our city will install entrance markers in five (5) of its major entrances/boundaries. This is integral to urban identity and is an important feature of a self-respecting community. Fittingly, one of the activities we have lined-up in connection with the 15th cityhood anniversary of Marikina is the unveiling of the entrance marker design.

The Courtesy Call

Being the newly elected set of officers for the Fiscal Year of 2011-2012, we made our first courtesy call to Hon. Mayor Del R. De Guzman of Marikina City on August 23, 2011 at the Mayor’s Office, Marikina City Hall, Sta. Elena Marikina City. The meeting started a little late due to certain unforeseen delays but it was worth the wait. In fact, our business meeting lasted over an hour. We gathered lots of information regarding the latest developments in the City.

Questions and clarification on the MOA response:

The design competition agenda was presented.

What is Arch. Palafox’s involvement/participation regarding Marikina Sports Center (MSC) redevelopment/ planning?

According to Arch Allan, we need to have a clear vision on the chapter’s involvement for the project and how are we going to be recognized? By experience, he states that “the chapter once participated in a local government’s project and then later was denied of the due recognition by some parties”.

Marvalley Marker Schemes

Adopt A Park (Commemorative Marker) – Marikina City - It help promote UAP as a professional organization for architects, to be designed, constructed, and maintained by the UAP- Marvalley Chapter, this park shall serve as a concrete and tangible image of UAP as a professional organization for the advancement of the architectural profession in the Philippines.
