Adopt a Library program

I.   THE MARIKINA LIBRARY

 Marikina library history  The Marikina City Library started as a Municipal Library. It was established on Aug. 11, 1956 under the leadership of Mayor Gil Estanislao Fernando (father of former Marikina Mayor Bayani F. Fernando) – also widely known as the “Education Mayor”. The Library receives awards as the outstanding City Library on 2007-2008. The Library’s new “home” strategically located at the West Grand Stand of the Marikina Sports Park along Shoe Ave., was inaugurated on May 20, 2005. The Library occupies a total of 700.62 square meters.

 Goals, Mission and Objective VISION - to become a premier public library imbued with sound values and a strong commitment to lifelong learning and information literacy. MISSION- Continually develops, sustain, preserve, and make available and accessible to the public the vast resources of the Marikina City Library. OBJECTIVE- To encourage the community to patronized and maximized the use of Library facilities.

II.  OCULAR INSPECTION OF THE MARIKINA LIBRARY 

 The Library has a yearly budget of 3.4 Million but only 1M is allocated for the Library renovation or improvement and the rest is for their operational expenses. Uses an open-shelf system in organizing books and other materials. It consists of several sections such as children’s section, special collection, Law and governance, periodic, recreational, teen’s section and computer section. The Library is open to the public (residents of Marikina and neighbouring cities and towns) from Monday to Friday (except during holidays and special occasions), 8 a.m.-12 p.m., and 1 p.m.–5 p.m. 

III.  UAP- MARVALLEY PARTICIPATION – “Adopt a Library program"

DESIGN CONCEPT OF CHILDREN’S SECTION. 

The Children’s section is the main concern; our organization can help them develop a design concept for interactive library for kid’s ages 3-10 yrs. old. Some of the basic space requirements are; storytelling area, reading and audio-visual area, arts and science. Our chapter will also coordinate with “National Bookstore Foundation” for the book donations and help them promote Library activities.

The Marikina City Library will be a formally launched next year November 2012 , there will be an intensive campaign programs.
